Yesterday we talked about how centralized platforms have become toll booths in a system that was meant to be free. Today, let’s take it one step further.
Coinbase just announced CB Assets — wrapped versions of ADA, DOGE, LTC, and XRP — that will exist only on the Base network. In other words: Coinbase is no longer just charging you to access crypto… now they’re offering you synthetic versions of it instead.
This isn’t decentralization. This is replication.
They're creating their own version of tokens — stripped from their native networks — and rebranded under the Coinbase banner. You're not buying ADA. You're buying cbADA. You're not using XRP on the XRP Ledger. You're using cbXRP on Base.
Why does this matter?
Because the future they’re building is one where they control the rails. One where your “crypto” exists entirely within their ecosystem. Where they can freeze it, censor it, or devalue it — just like any other middleman in legacy finance.
We didn’t come this far to buy IOUs.
We came here to use real networks. To move real value. To break free from synthetic financial systems — not rebuild them with prettier branding.
That’s why the fiat-to-XRPL bridge is critical. We need direct access to the networks that actually do the work — and we need to build the on/off ramps ourselves.
